About the Foundation
In many communities across Toronto youth are suffering unacceptable levels of violence, homelessness, and instability in their lives. They are finding it very difficult to take advantage of the vast educational system that is right at their fingertips. The barriers some of our youth experience are real. It’s not their fault! You can help.
It’s no secret education is the key to creating opportunity, the issue was keeping those faced with extreme barriers focused on accessing education and taking full advantage of the resources available to our youth today. With this in mind, Raye and Denise Ackerman worked to grow and establish the Foundation for Student Achievement. The Foundation was established because of passion to ensure that Toronto’s youth would graduate from high school at the right course level with the tools to succeed in their post- secondary studies. This meant providing students with access to tutors and mentors throughout their high school years that would care enough to help them simply graduate.
Since opening its doors in 2013 Raye and Denise Ackerman have contributed and invested $1.2 million into the Foundation’s operations and continue to be its largest single donor. Through the Foundation the Ackerman’s have helped many of Toronto’s youth gain access to strong tutoring, and passionate mentors. Currently the Foundation have 120 students enrolled in the program situated in CW Jefferys, Emery Collegiate, Westview Collegiate and Downsview Secondary. The Foundation creates a safe and collaborative environment for which every student can thrive in.
To this end the Foundation is in the preliminary stages of launching an aggressive fundraising campaign to sustain its programs and grow to meet the unfortunate demand that continues to be caused by the growing tension in our Toronto streets. No young person should be denied educational support as a result of their living conditions or barriers.
The Foundation for Student Achievement has become an integral part of the communities they serve. The Ackerman’s, the Board of Directors, and the staff bring passion and a hard work ethic into their programming. It is their hope, that others join their journey to improve and breakdown the barriers for youth in Toronto.
Toronto residents, corporations and small businesses are some of the most generous in the world. Foundation for Student Achievement is looking for individuals and businesses to partner with them to bring support to the most marginalized in our city. By joining our team of donors, corporate sponsors and partners you will be demonstrating strong leadership to communities that seem to be forgotten by most in our city.
